Lytle D. James         ( February 26, 1937 – April 23, 2017 )

Lytle D. James, age 80 of Mt. Sherman, Arkansas passed away Sunday April 23, 2017 at Cox Medical Center in Branson, MO.  

The son of Dewey and Velma Brasel James was born on February 26, 1937 in Gum Springs, Arkansas. 

Lytle was a life-long resident of Newton county where he enjoyed farm life and a love of long mule rides on Copper and hunting with his squirrel dog Billy. He enjoyed attending church with his brother Gerald and his family at the Parthenon Baptist Church.  Lytle was an avid sports fan and loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.  He was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan but loved watching the Jasper Pirates most of all.   He retired from Carroll Electric Cooperative with over 30 years as a lineman.  He served on the Jasper City Council, Justice of the Peace and on the Volunteer Fire Department for the City of Jasper.  He was honored as a member of the Jasper School District Hall of Fame and was inducted in the Arkansas Activities Association Official’s Hall of Fame in 2013.  One of his proudest moments was being a part of the rescue of Hailey Zega from the upper Buffalo River Wilderness area after being lost for over 2 days. 

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, 4 brothers Harold James, Tom James, George James and Levern James, and 1 sister, Vala Dee Butts.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Connie Fowler James of Mt. Sherman, AR; three sons, Vixen and wife Sheila of Harrison, AR;  Joe Paul and wife Carrie of Harrison, AR and Carey and wife Susie of Russellville, AR; seven grandchildren, Brent, Teagan, Josiah, Gatlin, Addie, Brodie and Kacen James; two brothers, Lex James of Pawhuska, OK and Gerald and wife, Betty James of Jasper, AR; four sisters, Hazel Peoples of Jasper, AR, Jean Hudson of St. Joseph, MO, Goldie Knotts of Clarksville, AR and Sue Nell and husband, Bill Morris of Clarksville, AR and many nieces and nephews.

  Burial in the Jasper Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Carey James, Tommy James, Donnie Hudson, Doug Morris, Denton James, Dean McKnight, Larry Fowler and Ricky Kilburn. Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of Harrison Dialysis, Dr. Justice and his gang at the Jasper Conoco and his beloved Gobbler’s Knob Deer Camp family.
